The Mass MOCA is a wonderfully curated museum and worth the trip alone (and lunch in their cafe is terrific and casual!) I booked the top or 2nd tier rooms for both stays, and so payed at the high end ($425 for a 2 BR and $325 for a 1 BR suite). It is a 10 minute drive to Williamstown, which makes for a great getaway weekend. North Adams is an interesting town - rehabilitated by the Mass MOCA and now dotted with good restaurants and other amenities. I found the staff to be relaxed but friendly and helpful. Coffee and pastry delivered (complimentary) in the morning in a lunch pail is another clever feature. The pool is great and the small "bar" is a nice touch. The beds and the linens are terrific, the sofa beds are the typical uncomfortable mattresses - you really are better off with a 2 bedroom suite rather than a sofa bed. Lots of clever design ideas throughout the common spaces and the rooms. Or book now at one of our other 1701 great restaurants in North Adams. If you go and are looking for some rest and relaxation, make sure there are no large parties happening during your stay and bring your earplugs just in case. (Porches also allowed them to hold a poolside gathering until 2 am, so late night noise was inevitable.) While the staff and management handled the problem well, it really never should have happened in the first place. Will it be party central for large groups or a small boutique get away hotel? It was a poor decision to place a couple traveling alone next to a room of people celebrating a wedding. Porches is too small and intimate of a hotel (I guess it is technically an "inn") in our opinion to be all things to all people. We were so exhausted the next day that we cut short our trip and headed home. By that time it was after 2 am and the chances of our getting a good night's sleep were shot. Although the night staff person was sympathetic and attentive to our complaints, it took three phone calls to him and two visits from him to our neighbors to quiet things down. On our first night, after an exhausting day of travel, we were awakened at midnight by post-wedding revelers partying and playing loud music in the room adjacent to ours.
